Recently Board results were announced. First it was CISCE and then CBSE. We all know that CISCE is much smaller as compared to CBSE in terms of schools and students taking exams. If CISCE will have two lakhs then CBSE will have 20 L students. These are approximate figures.
Most schools, students, parents, teachers and other stakeholders are looking at results from grades point of view. All want to make headlines and boast of toppers. – Here subject details are not available; their analysis will help finding issues with options for better combination
– Top performers doing better in Class X as compared to Class XII
– Pass percentage improving yet compartments pulling down overall results
– CISCE has better results but they have the advantage of lesser schools and most of them have good students
– Southern region doing well and that has been the trend; East and Northeast is lagging for sometime
– JNVs and KVs have been doing well; they also have the advantage of quantity and quality
– Girls have been doing well with smaller numbers in percentage terms
Recommendations
– Efforts be made to reduce and eliminate compartments; does not augur well with schools having CBSE Bds; other than medical or such pressing issues; teachers and schools must be made accountable
– State Govts should take cognisance of educational standards in areas where they are lagging
– CBSE and CISCE should come up with models to showcase learning of students in some form. Holistic report cards may be considered here also.
