I found this quote displayed on the corridor wall of Literacy India where I had gone recently to conduct a learning session for some faculty members involved in academic and vocational teaching and training.

I love the place for the simplicity yet professional approach to learning. The management, teachers, students and staff all are enthusiastic to learn and grow. This zest for development is making all the difference to this project based institution. Earlier I had addressed their project leaders and managers.

I contributed by sharing my thoughts on Motivation and Building Impactful Session. Topic was divided into three parts as under:-

– Finding my ‘Why’

– Motivating Myself

– Building Impactful Session

The session had a good Opener with stories and check ins:-

– Story of Karoly Takacs

– Check in with ‘Feeling’ cards

– LOs with flower and petal activity

1. Finding My ‘Why’

– Important to understand self and purpose to work on self-motivation

– Exercise based on this concept

– Drafting individual ‘Why’

– Shared my own ‘Why’- To promote education so that there is peace, justice and sustainable environment in the world.

2. Motivating Myself

– Examples of leaders from different fields and their motivation

– Quality of animal which motivates us

– Behaviour cards to assign motive and goal

– Motivation cards to answer questions

-Concept of motivation – Process and Situation of motivation

– Variables (individual, work characteristics and environment) affecting motivation

– A few motivation theories including Goal-Need-Belief theory which I feel is perfect for explaining process of motivation

– Reflections on LOs

“The significance of man or woman is not in what he or she attains; rather in what he or she longs to attain”

– Khalil Gibran It was a pleasure to engage with these responsive and disciplined participants who had all the urge to learn and move ahead in life. Teaching, training and facilitation is a great way to learn! Thanks to LI and Kirti Rana for the opportunity.
